PROJECT SUPPORTED
Participants in this expedition are expected

friends, family and colleagues to adopt orphaned Orangutans as well
as help protect the habitat of this endangered species through on the
ground foot patrols that prevent poaching and illegal logging.
Details of how to achieve this goal and further info will be sent
once you have booked. The group will also provide much needed

HIGHLIGHTS
OVERVIEW
There really is nothing like giving back. That's right, in this specially crafted expedition you will visit the habitats of humanities closest relative, the Orangutan.
By 2011, OO had raised over $60,000 for the Orangutans in the Tanjung Puting National Park with donations to the Australian Orangutan Project (AOP) and OCCQ (Pangkalan Bun).
This expedition is divided into 2 sections. The first and major section is a visit to the Orangutans. The second is an optional adventure around the famed Krakatoa where we will camp on the beach and through Ujung Kulon National Park in search for endangered Java Rhino.
Our first destination is the jungle of Borneo to see the Orangutan in its natural environment. We may happen across Tom the dominant male or the world famous intelligent Princess down on the pier. We will see both reintroduced and wild Orangutans as well as a host of other awesome rain forest creatures.
The Tanjung Puting National Park is home to rare and interesting species including the Proboscis monkey and the false gavial, a strange looking crocodile.
But it is the Orangutan that most people come here to visit. It's sheer beauty and passive demeanor endears one of our closest relatives to our hearts. We will see both wild and rehabilitated Orang-utans and have the opportunity to get close to these magnificent creatures.
After visiting the Orangutan's natural environment, we will head back to civilization and visit the Orangutan Orphanage and Care Centre near Kumai. This, for many, is a highlight as you will come into close contact with many young Orangutans and garner a deeper understanding of their plight. If this visit doesn't move you nothing will!
While we will have the opportunity to see these amazing creatures we will also be helping their plight. Through this expedition we will be delivering much needed supplies to the Orangutan orphanages, each participant will be adopting an Orangutan and we will be protecting land that ensures the habitat of the Orangutan remains intact. Further, a direct donation to the Care Centre in Pangkalan Bun will be presented to them from funds raised by this trip.
After Borneo, we head back to Bali. For those that
want an adventure on the way back, we will be offering an action
packed extension to Krakatoa and Java. (more information on this extension is available on our Expedition Dossier page).
If you are interested in adventure and giving back to the world at the same time, then you have got to be part of this expedition.
ITINERARY
Day 1 : Arrive in Bali. We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to our hotel for overnight stay.
Day 2 : Fly to Pangkalan Bun via Benjamasin. Fly direct from Bali in the early morning direct through to Pangkalan Bun via Benjamasin. This evening we do the city boast cruise. Overnight at Blue Kecubung Hotel.
Day
3 : Pangkalan Bun - Camp Leakey - Crocodile Lake. Early start today will have us traveling in our own Klotok boats up the Sekonyer River to Camp Leakey, the oldest camp set up for the Orphaned Orangutans. Arrive at Camp Leakey, take a short trek in the surrounding area and meet some of the residents and carers, and then visit the museum. Then back to the boat for lunch. We are likely to see Orangutans (or have them see us) near the boat. Then we will be back at the Camp for the afternoon feeding time. After enjoying the feeding time of the Orangutans and being given a tour of the surrounding forest area, back to the boat and cruising down the Camp Leakey River to Crocodile Lake where we will spend the night. We most likely will see other wildlife of Borneo such as Gibbons & Proboscis Monkey. Overnight on the Klotok. We provide a mattress, pillow and mosquito net. (B,L,D)
Day 4 :
Crocodile Lake - Pondok Tanggui - Trajan Harapan - Rimba Lodge. Leave early and back to Pondok Tanggui for morning feeding. Then we cruise back down to check into Rimba Lodge and Tarjan Harapan station for afternoon feeding. Stay at Rimba Lodge.

Day 5 : Rimba Lodge - Pondok Tanggui - Jungle Camp. Early morning start sees us back up to Tanggui for morning feeding again and then we will begin our Jungle Trek deep into the Orangutans eco system. This trek is some 16 - 20kms (4-6 hours) and includes an amazing "swamp" area to get through. Lunch will be along the way. This is a privileged trek as very few get permission to camp in the Jungle.

Day 6 : Jungle Camp - Fireflies. Morning sees us proceed to the Pesalat Plantation where we get to plant some trees to help regenerate the forest. You will be given GPS coordinates to locate the trees that you planted. From there we will be back on the boat and depending on time we will get another final Orangutan viewing at Tarjan Harapan station and a tour of the local village. Later that afternoon we will take the boat down the river to a mangrove of Nipah Palms, where we will see millions of fireflies. On the way we will watch proboscis monkey along the river banks. Then it's back to Kumai by Klotok and overnight at Blue Kecubung Hotel in Pangkalan Bun. (B,L,D)
Day 7 : Pangkalan Bun - Orangutan Orphanage. Today we will visit the Orangutan Clinic near Pasir Panjang Village. We have been granted this very special access not afforded to many visitors (nor members of the public). There we will see how the Orphaned Orangutans are cared for, what happens to them before they reach the centre and all the work the dedicated team does to look after their very special patients and prepare them for release back into the forests. We will have lunch thereafter and then have some free time n the afternoon to explore the town, possibly visit the Yellow Palace and do some last minute shopping. (B)
